Exclusively w/ art queen Shanyan霍尚欣 #interview #covergirl

Meet Latest China #covergirl Shanyan 霍尚欣 @shanyanart, art world entrepreneur and renowned fine art collector, in an exclusive interview.

LATEST China magazine interview with Shanyan 霍尚欣 :

  1. Your world moves effortlessly between art salons, auctions, and private viewings. As a fashion enthusiast, how would you describe your personal style, and how has the art you live with influenced the way you dress?

Given my dark hair and dark eyes, I have always preferred a Deep Winter colour season, with a Bright Winter edge. Colour-wise I prefer True Black, Crisp White, and charcoal. I also like Metallics. The one bright colour I like to wear is Red. My personal style revolves primarily around those colours, I find they also complement living with art, these colours allow the art to shine and take centre stage.

I am a girly girl, I believe in the power of feminine energy. Delicate lace, silk and satin all feature heavily jn my wardrobe. My long black hair is also a fashion statement, you will often see me with a black or white bow in my hair. A high pony tail, or just hair down.

  1. You have worked with masterpieces by artists such as Monet, Picasso, Basquiat, and Warhol. Is there a particular artwork or artist that marked a turning point in your personal collecting journey?

Damien Hirst, Eden , one of his most beautiful and iconic butterfly paintings
This work hangs in my London residence
It marked a turning point for me, from collecting Impressionist and Modern masters, to Contemporary masters also

I would love to own a Rothko one day.

  1. Collecting art and collecting fashion both require intuition. What does your decision-making process look like when choosing a piece—whether it’s a painting or a couture garment? Is it more about intuition or logic?

I am very romantic at heart so I always respond with intuition . You have to feel the emotional and spiritual connection with the art or fashion piece First. Logic comes next

  1. As someone who values craftsmanship, what details do you notice first in a beautifully made garment—and how does that mirror what you look for in fine art?

The most important for me, regardless of art or fashion, is the beauty of the piece. It’s important to note that Beauty is not just the traditional sense of something beautiful, beauty may come in different ways.

I always trust my instinct and how a piece makes me feel, what emotions does it evoke in me. Calmness, sadness, nostalgia, surprise, romance, joy…. These are all forms of beauty that one can feel when looking at a piece., be it art or fashion.

I then analyse further – looking at composition of the work- form and shape, medium, fabric, cut, details – brushwork, colours, layers , and in fashion the embellishment and beading. Sometimes the juxtaposition of fabrics or embellishment create a sense of surprise and that’s beautiful also.

  1. In an era of fast trends, what does timelessness mean to you—both in art collecting and in fashion?

I have always collected the masters and that to me is timeless- from Monet to Picasso, Matisse to Sanyu, Basquiat to Warhol.

Similar in fashion, the classic designers will always be timeless. I enjoy the timeless designs of Chanel, Dior, Valentino. These last generations.

It’s important not to get too distracted by fast trends that come and go quickly

  1. Looking ahead, how do you envision the future of the art world, and what role do you hope Shanyan Koder Fine Art will play in shaping the next generation of collectors?

My advisory is very small, bespoke art advisory, so I hope to continue to advise and serve the next generation of my clients families to the best of my ability.

  1. Philanthropy plays an important role in your life. How do you see art as a vehicle for social impact and cultural responsibility?

Very important, art tells a story and conveys messages.

  1. Sustainability and conscious luxury are shaping both fashion and art. How important is responsible collecting—of both art and fashion—to you?

  1. You balance multiple roles—art advisor, entrepreneur, mother. How does your wardrobe adapt to these different facets of your life, from boardroom to gallery to family time?

I have a different look for my different facets of life.

At home I am just mum, no make up, comfortable athleisure fashion. I like to wear Alo, and other athleisure brands. It’s important to me that I am not distracted

As an art advisor and entrepreneur outside of the home, I like to dress up in high fashion – here is where I get to shine and put on the glam.

  1. As a wife, mother of three daughters, and entrepreneur, how do you balance family life with the demands of the international art world, and what values do you hope to pass on to your children?

Actually I have 5 daughters!
I like to think I do a good job and compartmentalise. I work from home when the kids are at school, but when they are home I am always just mum.

When I am required to travel for international art fairs, auctions, etc, I only attend those during the school term when the girls are at school and busy, so they don’t miss me too much.

I hope the girls understand that family always comes first, and as a woman it is important to have balance.

  1. When you imagine the next generation, especially your daughters, what lessons about style, confidence, and self-expression do you hope to pass on?

I hope they understand the concept of dressing classically and how that is timeless . Confidence also comes from within, regardless of fashion.

  1. Behind the public roles of advisor and entrepreneur, who is Shanyan when the day slows down and the doors are closed at home?

A mum of 5 girls, and a wife to a wonderful husband.
